New Movie Coming up
Can’t get enough of superhero films? Well, nor can we at Swide and so I have compiled a list of the upcoming superhero and supervillain films that are coming up during the next couple of years. From Marvel to DC Comics and then from TV to big screen, here is what you should be looking out for from now until 2016.
The Invisible Boy – Gabriele Salvatores
December 18 2014 (Italy)
Not your usual style of film to come out of Italy but that hasn’t stopped Oscar-winning Italian director Gabriele Salvatores delving into the world of superpowers. When a young bullied boy makes a wish that he was invisible, he wakes up to find that his wish has come true and he is faced with some difficult choices. From the producer of The Great Beauty, The invisible boy stars Valeria Golino, Fabrizio Bentivoglio and the newcomer Ludovico Girardello. It’s nice to have something a little different coming out of Italy. Keep your eyes out for this one.
Avengers: Age of Ultron – Josh Whedon
May 1 2015
Having proved that he could handle the epic ensemble cast of the first Avengers film, Joss Whedon was rearing to go on The Avengers: Age of Ultron, which sees Tony Stark initiate a unused peacekeeping scheme that goes wrong. It stars all of our favourites going head to head with the emerging villain Ultron, seeing the heroes striking up tense alliances and global action. All the big names are back, including Robert Downey Jr. Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Mark Ruffalo and new to the team Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
Another Marvel flick for you, and this time sees the unlikely hero Ant-Man get lifted from the comic books, and I for one can not wait! It focuses on con-man Scott Lang and his mentor Dr. Hank Pym, who, together, must pull off a heist that will save the world. It stars Paul Rudd, Hayley Atwell (also in The Avengers: Age of Ultron) and Michael Douglas. Oh, and if you’re unfamiliar with what Ant-Man can do, he has the ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength. Oh yes!
The Fantastic Four – Josh Tank
August 7 2015
Ready for another remake of The Fantastic Four? Well, now that Chris Evans has carved himself out a successful career as Captain American, which meant Johnny Storm was snapped up by Michel B. Jordan. There is also Kate Mara as the Invisible Woman, Miles Telier as Mr. Fantastic and Jamie Bell as The Thing. This time around the storyline sees the four friends teleport to another universe which modifies their physical form but this misfortune becomes a gift when they must group together and save the world from a former friend.
One that I’ve been looking forward to for sometime is a film dedicated to Deadpool, the moniker of anti-hero Wade Winston Wilson. With Ryan Reynolds apparently still penned in the lead role, Deadpool has numerous powers, some which were featured in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine film. Reynolds’ career got bumpy after the superhero film ‘Green Latern’ failed at the box office but hopefully this film, along with the others he has lined up, will help put him back on the right road. We are yet to hear what the storyline will entail but bring it on!
Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice – Zack Snyder
March 25 2016
This is going to be BIG! Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg and oh so many others are part of the ensemble that are going to make this one to remember. Director Zack Snyder is the man who brought us 300, Watchmen and Man of Steel, so we know that the film is in good hands. Unfortunately, the storyline is still unknown and even their stint at Comic Con gave little away as to what we could expect… except the fact it is going to be epic. Also just in, Zack will be directing the upcoming Justice League two-parter.
Captain America: Civil War – Anthony and Joe Russo
May 6 2016
Picking up from where The Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, the third Captain America film is going to be an emotional one. With the world’s leaders having passed an act that requires all superhuman activity to be monitored and identities registered, the members of The Avengers split into two factions, those pro-registration with Iron Man and those anti-registration with Captain America. This causes friction between the former allies, culminating in tragic events. Already lined up is Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Sebastian Stan and Chadwick Boseman. Whether other members of The Avengers franchise will sign up, we’ll have to wait and see.
X-Men: Apocalypse – Bryan Singer
May 26 2016
Ahhh you know it’s going to be good when Singer is heading an X-Men film and it’s even more exciting when a director has a cast as exciting like this to play with too; From the current lineup of the franchise, we have Jennifer Lawrence, Evan Peters, Nicholas Hoult, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and, of course, Hugh Jackman. Though we don’t know the official plot of the latest film, looking at the comic books, we could be in for the battle of all mutants, owing that Apocalypse was the first born with the mutant X-gene… over 5000 years ago. Maybe the franchise could explore his revival in the latest comics along with his band of villains called The Four Horsemen… but we’ll let you know.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 – director unknown
There is very little to go on with the new TMNT film, expect that it surpassed expectations at the box office and was given the ok for a second installment. Writers Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec have been attached to the project.
